Service & Personal History
Major war time experiences:
• Left Adelaide on SS Geelong with 32nd Battalion 18th Nov. 1915
• Transferred from 32nd Battalion to 27th late 1915 when in Egypt to be with his brother.
• 1st Aust. Division in France and at the front lines at Bois Grenier March to June 1916
• Pozieres – 4-5th August 1916. Shook hands with his brother 3rd August at Chalk Pit but never saw him again. Was involved in the taking of OG1 & OG2 trenches near the Windmill at Poziers 4-5th August 1916. Beat off counter attacks and took prisoners.
• Ypres & Flers front line – Oct. to Nov. 1916
• Hospitalised in England winter 1916-1917
• Third Battle for Ypres
o Menin Road / Westhoek Ridge Sept. 1917
o Battle of Broodseinde–Oct. 1917. Buried alive but was dug out just in time.
• Hospitalised in England Dec 1917
• Repatriated back to Aust. April – June 1918.

• Worked mostly in wood milling jobs throughout his life.
