William Alfred ROSE

A brave young soldier who gave his life for King and country . He fought and survived the Battle of Fromelles in July 2016 ,only to be struck down by a snipers bullet four months later outside the town of Flers - Guedecourt on 1st November 2016.
He was the fourth child of Alfred and Annie Rose. He was 19 years old when he left Australia's shores for ever, leaving behind his loving and proud parents, his two older sisters and my 11 year old father.
He is remembered and honored by his proud family 108 years after his death during the war that would end all wars.

"Beautiful memories left behind of duty nobly done". Epitaph of 3245 Pte William Alfred Rose who was killed in action this day 103 years ago during WW1 at the Battle of Flers, France. William was from Wellington, NSW and joined the AIF on 27 September 1915, after a number of years in Army cadets (His portrait is in his cadet uniform). He landed in France as a reinforcement for the 56th Battalion on 29 June 1916, but was killed in action less than six months later. William was 20 years of age. PTE Roses' service, along with a number of other AIF members killed on the 1st November 1916, was remembered on the anniversary of their deaths during a visit to their graves by a member of the Will We Remember Them team today.
