Son of Richard O'Reilly and Caroline O'Reilly nee Hine of Dundas via Ferndale, QLD.
Brother of John Joseph O'Reilly who returned to Australia on 7 March 1919 having served with the 14th Field Artillery Brigade.
Commenced return to Australia on 16 March 1918 aboard HS Kanowna disembarking on 24 May 1918 at Sydney for onward travel to Brisbane
