Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Henry Dobe served in both the South African (Boer) war and WW2 (home service).

His older brother John Dobe also served in the Boer war in the same 5th Qld Imperial Bushmen contingent, and again in WW1 where he was K.I.A. while serving in France.

When Henry Dobe enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. S. Dobe, Edith St, Paddington, Brisbane.

He enlisted again in 1942 for home service during WW2 and on his Attestation Form, dated 19 Apr 1942, it notes that; he was born at Ipswich and was 53 years 1 month of age; he was married and a farm hand/dairy farmer; and his N.O.K. was his wife Flora Hannah Dobe, Coolum via Yandina.

Henry Dobe was born on 21 Jul 1883 at Ipswich, a son to Henry Dobe and Sophia Dobe (nee Butterfield). He married Flora Hannah Brown Wardrop and they had 6 children. They were long time residents in the Coolum area where he pursued interests in farming both cane and dairying before retiring to Cooroy.
