Son of Frederick William Odgers and Elizabeth Jane Odgers nee Phillips of Nathalia, Victoria.

Following his discharge in London Clifford was employed with the Commonwealth Bank, Public Trustee Branch in Australia House. Later he was employed by Singapore Electric Tramways Limited, Straits Settlement in 1921.
In 1928 he wrote to Base Records for a copy of his discharge so he could gain early release from Yatala Prison, Adelaide. He had been convicted under the name of Maxwell Mackay. Arrested on a warrant but the information was withdrawn however he was still convicted and committed to Yatala.
During 1931c Clifford married Florence Belle Auchen in Victoria.
