Arthur James SEARLE - Private 56
Joined Australian Army AIF 24 August 1914 age 24
1st Field Ambulance, A Squadron and embarked from Sydney NSW 20 October 1914 on board A14 HMAT Euripides, spent time in Egypt and on Gallipoli Peninsular Arthur was evacuated to hospital (Lemnos) suffering from Pneumonia, to hospital (Lemnos, Mudros) Dysentery and from May 1915 to December 1915 NAA records show he was in hospitals a lot and contracted Enteric fever (Typhoid) Arthur was sent back to Australia December 1915 from Mudros to hospital Malta back on a ship and hospital Heliopolis, Cairo finally embarked to Australia 28 January 1916 landed in Melbourne Australia 19 March 1916 and was Discharged medically unfit 20 October 1916
Arthur had five brothers and two sisters, two of his brothers served in
1st & 5th Field ambulance and one in the 9th battalion
Albert - served in Egypt - 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital
Henry – served in Egypt – France – Belgium - 9th Infantry Battalion A.I.F.
Frederick - 5th Field Ambulance,
killed in action Ypres, Belgium 29 October 1917 age 33
His cousin Private 3896 Clifford James Searle M.M. was awarded the Military Medal
For conspicuous: bravery in the field, he was also in 5th field ambulance
Served in - Egypt and Gallipoli - Western Front
