Son of John Henry Emanuel Unwin and Margaret Unwin nee Kenny of South Melbourne, Victoria.
Husband of Emily Unwin of Carrington Street, South Melbourne, Victoria.
30 August 1915 - enlisted at Melbourne with the 29th Battalion with the rank of Private
20 April 1916 - transferred to the 46th Battalion as Tel-el-Kebir
1 October 1917 - wounded. Wound to the left arm; transferred to England on 15 October 1917
Commenced return to Australia on 25 November 1917 aboard HS Karoola disembarking on 10 January 1918
Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
4 July 1918 - discharged at the 3rd Military District as medically unfit
