Corporal George William Faragher (Service Nos:Q45173/QX56856) initially served in the ACMF, enlisting as a Private on 18 December 1941 with 5 Australian Division Petrol Coy. Promoted to Lance Corporal on 9 July 1942, he served with 11 Brigade Coy ASC, 26 Coy ASC, and on Thursday Island (19 July 1943 - 3 October 1944) with 47 Australian Supply Depot Platoon. Lance Corporal Faragher was 'in the filed' on Thursday Island when he enlisted in the AIF on 21 August 1943, and was promoted to Corporal on 23 May 1944. Corporal Faragher served in Nadzab (18 August 1945 - 27 December 1945), and was attached to 4 New Guinea Infantry Platoon at Discharge on 9 January 1946.

George was born in Brisbane QLD in 1918, eldest of two children of Harold Oscar Corlett Faragher (b1890 in Liverpool, England) and Isabella Cowin (b1891 in Brisbane, QLD). Harold was a Butcher's Assistant on the Isle of Man when he immigrated in 1912, arriving in Sydney on board the Runic. Harold and Isabella married in Brisbane in 1916 - Harold, a Clerk, enlisted in the AIF on 1 October 1916 as a Private (Service No:32) - unfit for overseas service, he served with the Australian Army Pay Corps (AAPC) and was a Corporal at Discharge on 28 February 1918. Harold and Isabella settled in Brisbane, where they raised their family. Harold was a Justice of the Peace, a Clerk with the Commonwealth Public Service, an Auctioneer and staff member at Union Trustee Coy of Australia Ltd. He established Faragher & White, a Real Estate Coy, and was a member of the Nationalist Organisation and National Speakers' Association (President).

George was a Bank Clerk with Brisbane Permanent Building and Banking Coy, and in 1941 enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, George returned to Brisbane and in the early 1950s married Clare Annette. The couple settled in Brisbane, where they raised their family and George worked as a Bank Clerk/Officer until retirement. George died in 2003.
