He was 22 and the son of Mary Forsyth Christie (formerly White), of The Manse, Kinlochleven, Argyll, Scotland, and the late James Bisset White.

He is remembered on the Gorebridge and Stobhill Great War Memorial, Midlothian.

Obituary : William Forsyth White - Australian Infantry, AIF [Dalkeith Advertiser 18 May 1916]: The death is now announced as having occurred in action on 8th August 1915 of William Forsyth White, of the Australian Imperial Force, who was previously reported wounded and missing. The deceased, who was a young man of much promise, was a stepson of the Rev. Robert Christie, M.A., East United Free Church, Gorebridge.
