Stanley was the seventh of ten children of Christopher Henry Fry (born 1887 at Emmaville near Glenn Innes in NSW) and Mary (Minnie) Elizabeth Rogers (born 1891 in Cooktown, QLD). Married in Cairns in 1908, Christopher and Minnie raised their children in Cairns, where he was a Labourer.
Stanley was 19 years of age when he enlisted in December 1941 and served as a Sergeant (Service No: Q116397) with the Army at 116 General Hospital. Older brother Christopher served also served at 116 General Hospital as a Private (Service No: Q143301), and Brothers-in-Law - Harold Herbert Bird (Service No: 1766), Max Arnold (Service no: QX46009), and Alan Vernon Dickfos (Service Nos: Q122294/QX49525) also served in WWII.
Following his Discharge in March 1947, Stan returned to Cairns and worked as a Pharmacist, marrying Thelma June in 1956. They moved to Townsville where Stan worked as a Storeman and Thelma as a Pharmacy Assistant. Divorcing in 1959, Stan returned to Cairns where he worked as a Salesman until his death in 1973.
