27 Jul 1942: Taken prisoner of war at El Alamein by German troops when overrun by armoured vehicles.

07 Feb 1945: Escaped Sudetenland (Czechoslovakia) and recaptured 3 days later.

19 Feb 1945: Escaped again from hotel in Oberjellen with WX12113 Pte. Arthur John Coffey (2/32nd Infantry Batt) and WX12120 Pte. William Noel Hoffman (2/32nd infantry Batt) and stayed with partisans.

14 May 1945: Made own way to American Army lines at Pilsen (Czechoslovakia).
