The fifth of eight children, David was born in 1916 in Moola nr Dalby, QLD. Charles Frederick Gourley (b1878 in Craigieburn, Victoria) was a Selector at Moola in 1908 when he married Mary Ashworth (b1888 in Orbost, Victoria). Charles and Mary settled in Moola nr Dalby where they raised their family. In the early 1940s Charles and Mary moved to Maryborough, QLD where Charles worked as a Labourer.
David was working as a Labourer in Jandowae, Dalby QLD in 1941 when he enlisted in the Australian Army (Trooper; Service No:QX23482). He was attached to 2/5 Armoured Regiment when he was Discharged in November 1944.
Returning to Jandowie, David was working as a Labourer when he died in 1948.
