Private William Alaric Hall (Service No:QX14367) initially served in the Militia (Trooper: Service No:74927) from 8 January 1838 with 2/14th Light Horse Regiment before enlisting in the AIF on 9 July 1940. Private Hall served with 2/25th Infantry Battalion in Darwin NT (23 October 1940 - 15 February 1941); the Middle East (7 April 1941 - 10 March 1942), where he was WiA on 28 June 1941 - shrapnel wound; New Guinea (31 October 1942 - 9 December 1942 and 19 July 1943 - 16 February 1944) - WiA on 23 November 1942 - GSW; and Borneo (6 June 1945 - 19 November 1945). Private Hall and his brother Sydney (Private; Service No:QX14366) enlisted together in the Militia and the AIF, and both served with 2/25th Infantry Battalion.

William (aka Alaric) was born in Esk, QLD in 1913, eldest of eight children of William (Willie) Hall (b1888 in Bryden, QLD) and Gladys Smith (b1888 in Esk, QLD). Willie (a Labourer) and Gladys married in 1912 in Eske, where they settled and raised their family. In 1916 Willie started employment with QGR as a Railways Worker, and he and Gladys lived at Deep Creek via Mt Brisbane, Toogoolawah, Esk and Yimbun via Esk before settling in Kilcoy.

William was a Timber Worker at Sheep Station Creek via Esk in the 1930s and, in 1941 in Esk, married Ellen (Nellie) Carseldine (b1916 in Kilcoy, QLD). Following his Discharge from the Army, William and Nellie lived at Woombye, where William was a Farmer until the early 1950s when he joined the Public Service - Postmaster Generals Department. William first worked as a Postman in Nambour, then he and Nellie settled in Brisbane in the late 1950s, where they raised their family and William was a Clerk with the PMGs Department until retirement in 1980. Both William and Nellie died in 1994 - William in March and Nellie in August.
