Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Trooper Thomas Roy Hamilton (Service No:QX31496) served in the AIF with 7 Training Battalion and 2/2 Armoured Regiment from 13 April 1942 to 4 December 1945.

Fourth of five children, Thomas was born in Mitchell QLD in 1922 to Thomas Horace Roy Hamilton (aka Horace; b1894 in Bellingen, New South Wales) and Alice Grant (b1892 in Cheshire, England) - Alice immigrated in 1911, arriving in Sydney on board the St Albans. Horace was a Farmer/Grazier at Tabulum via Tenterfield NSW in 1915 when he and Alice married in Cootamundra. They moved to the Maranoa Region in QLD - initially at Mungalalla and then Glenapp via Mitchell - where they settled and raised their family. Horace was a Grazier, and a Councillor for the Shire of Booringa via Mitchell. In the 1950s Horace and Alice returned to NSW, where they lived at Evans Head and Woodburn via Lismore.

Thomas was working as a Station Hand on the family property at Glenapp via Mitchell in 1942 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, he returned to Glenapp and was working as a Station Hand in 1949 when he married Aldyth Phoebe Elizabeth Timmins (b1927 in Mitchell, QLD) - Aldyth was working as a Jillaroo on the family property, Newikie Downs via Mitchell. Thomas and Aldyth settled at Glenapp via Mitchell, where they raised their family and Thomas was a Station Hand. In the late 1950s Aldyth moved to Redcliffe in Brisbane where she raised the children and Thomas worked as a Station Hand at Currawong Station via Mitchell until his death in 1964. Aldyth died in 2023.
