William John Harding was the fourth of five children of William Harding and Emma Wilson of Silkstone in Ipswich, QLD.

William was a Carter like his father prior to Enlsting on 26 January 1942 with the Army Citizen Military Forces, where he served as a Private (Service No: Q148674) with LAC PW Camp (AACC) until his Discharge on 25 March 1946.

William's younger brother James was Killed in Action at Tarakan in Borneo in 1945.

In 1942, William married Lois Claydon Karl in Ipswich, QLD. After his Discharge, William and his family moved to Toowoomba, QLD where he worked as a Moulder's Labourer until his death in 1950
