Surviving close quarters with Japanese
Dad - Vincent Harris - apparently survived against an enemy who were competent jungle fighters by learning to breath without making a sound, wearing Japanese headgear at night to confuse assailants and ensuring his own comrades knew exactly where he was at all times. Clever eh?

Ps he also kept a protection over his ears that amplified sound but prevented a sharp weapon from entering via his ear.
Even more clever I feel given the threat of attack from behind at night in dense jungle.
