Basil Montague HATCHER was born on 22nd September, 1922 in Toowoomba, Queensland

His parents were Ernest HATCHER and Maud BAILEY who married in 1918 in Queensland

Basil married Thelma GORDON in 1944 - Thelma died in1972

He joined the Air Force in Brisbane on 2nd Feb. 1941 as an Aircraftman 2 with the No. 2 Initial Training School and was discharged on 19th March, 1941

Later he joined the Army  in Brisbane on 7th January, 1942 and was a Signalman with the 36 Australian Wireless Task Section - he was in New Guinea and the Solomon islands from 14th Sept 1944 to 15th August, 1945 - he was discharged on 17th January, 1946

Transferred to 2nd Signals 1 Squadron Div. on 20th May, 1942

Transferred to 1 Squadron Signals, 1st Australian Armd Div on 19th Jan. 1942

Transferred to Headquarters 2nd Australian Armd C. Reg on 28th July, 1944

Embarked on ship Duntroon for Lae on 13th Sept. 1944

Embarked Lae for Bougainville on 20th Oct. 1944

Embarked Torokina for Green Island on 31st Oct. 1944

He left Torokina on the ship Katoomba and arrived back in Sydney on 2nd January, 1946

Known Medals:  1939-45 Star, Pacific Star

Basil died on 30th August, 1999 - his name is on a memorial plaque at Albany Creek Memorial Park, Bridgeman Downs, Queensland
