Private Alexander Anzac Hendry (Service No:QX24730) enlisted in the Australian Army in October 1941 and was attached to 2nd/5th Armoured Regiment when he was Discharged in November 1945. He served in Morotai (26 April 1945 - 24 October 1945).

The fourth of five children of Alexander Hendry (b1886 in Tenterfield, NSW) and Lucy Ann Makings (b1891 at Rosewood on the Darling Downs, QLD), Alex Jnr was born in Killarny, QLD. Alexander Snr (a Farmer) and Lucy settled in Killarney QLD where they raised their family.

In 1941 Alex was a Truck Driver in Townsville, QLD when he enlisted in the Army. In 1942 in Lismore NSW, he married Annie Alma Read (nee Flick, b1902 in Murwillumbah, NSW - Annie was a Widow. Following his Discharge in 1945, Alex and Annie settled in Byron Bay where Alex worked as a Labourer. He died in 1980 and Annie in 1997.
