Trooper Thomas Carns Sydney Hindhaugh (Service No:4636) enlisted in the AIF on 4 January 1918, and was attached to Light Horse Reinforcements when he embarked with his Unit on 30 April 1918 from Sydney NSW for Suez on board SS Port Darwin. On 15 June 1919 Trooper Hindhaugh embarked from Kantara for Melbourne on board HT Essex and was attached to 4th Light Horse Regiment at Discharge on 9 August 1919. In WWII, Lieutenant Hindhaugh (Service No:V360173) served in the ACMF with 9 Battalion VDC from 10 December 1942 to 31 October 1945.

Tom (Thomas Carus Sydney) was born in Camperdown, Victoria in 1897, eldest of three children of James Herbert Hindhaugh (b1871 in Camperdown, Victoria) and Kate Yockins (b1868 in Belfast, Victoria). James served as Lieutenant with the Victorian Mounted Rifles, and in 1896 he and Kate married in Camperdown, where they settled and raised their family. James was a Station Manager at Weerite, Danedite and South Purumbeet.

Tom was of 'Independent Means' when he enlisted in the AIF in 1918. Following his Discharge, he settled at Weerite via Camperdown, where he was a Farmer. In 1926 in Brighton, Melbourne, Tom married Helen Laurie Bolton (b1898 in Ballarat, Victoria) - Helen was a Teacher in Portland and Camperdown. Tom and Helen lived at Kariah via Camperdown, where Tom was a Farmer before moving to Harrow in the mid 1930s - Tom was an Inspector of Land Settlement. In the early 1950s Tom and Helen moved to Hamilton, where Tom worked as an Inspector of Lands until retirement. Tom died in 1973 and Helen in 1988.
