Add my storyBiography contributed by Chris Buckley
Danny was the son of Daniel William Paul Hunter (b1890 in Brisbane, QLD) and Alice Maud Butler (b1902 in Gympie, QLD). Daniel had worked as a Labourer in Southport before becoming a Cook in Brisbane, and in 1924 he and Alice married in Brisbane, where they settled and Daniel worked as a Cook.
Danny was an Apprentice Cook in Brisbane when he enlisted in the ACMF in August 1942. He served (Gunner; Service No:Q1521931) with 1st Field Artillery Training Regiment until Discharging to enlist in the Army in June 1943. Danny was a Gunner (Service No:QX55700) with 2/12 Field Regiment. He served in New Guinea (3 December 1943 - 7 March 1944) and Borneo (26 April 1945 - 29 December 1945) and was Discharged in July 1946.
Returning to Brisbane, Danny worked at the Rose Cafe as a Pastry Cook and in 1948 married 'the girl next door' - Gloria Edith Gilbert (b1925 in Brisbane, QLD). Gloria served with the RAAF (Aircraftwoman; Service No:122131) in WWII. Danny and Gloria settled in Brisbane where Danny worked as a Pastry Cook. In 1988 he joined other ex-servicemen committed to restoring and maintaining the historic Fort Lytton site and acting as volunteer guides to the public - Danny took the first guided tour of the site and donated many personal items to the Fort museum.
Danny was involved with many ex-servicemen's associations, and in 2009 was awarded the OAM for his role in 'preserving and contributing to the historical knowledge of the Artillery in Australia in general and that of Fort Lytton in particular'.
Gloria died in 2010 and Danny in 2012.
