John Henry Newsome was an Australian soldier who fought in World War One. Newsome was born in Houghton South Australia, and he lived in Inglewood, South Australia. His occupation prior to his service in the war was a gardener.
Newsome enlisted to fight in the war on the 4th of January 1916. He was 40 at the time. His next of kin was his mother Mrs Elizabeth Coad. The unit that he embarked on was called 3rd Light Horse Regiment, 16th Reinforcement. John embarked on the ship that was called HMAT A59 Botanist, on the 26th of April 1916. It’s mentioned that he fought in Turkey, Egypt and Palestine. Newsome also became sick during his service period. He was sent to hospital on the 28/9/14. The reason of his sickness is unknown.
John Henry was fortunate enough to return back to his home, returning to Australia 15 May 1919.
