Add my storyBiography contributed by Nola Holt
Percy Horton Carter was son of George Henry Carter (1863-1955) and Phoebe Elizabeth Criddle (1870-1960) and brother of Norman Leslie Carter who was killed on 6 May 1917 at the Battle of Bullecourt, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.
Percy played the trumpet in the 16th Battalion Band during World War 1.
He was wounded in action on 4 July 1918 but returned to the 16th Battalion.
In Hamel Wood, France, on 17 July 1918, he and another runner were sent to the 16th Battalion Head Quarters with a situational report. They encountered the enemy, attacked and stopped them. They both sustained wounds but were able to deliver their messages before being evacuated. Both men were awarded the Military Medal for Bravery.
