Flying Officer Bonython 416822 (Pilot - 1 Rescue and Communication Squadron at Port Moresby) and Flying Officer Kelley 1432 (3890) (Navigator - 30SQN) were lost at sea after taking off from Jacquinot Bay, New Britain in Seagull aircraft A2-19 to search for the crew of missing Beaufighter A19-132 of 30SQN
Their bodies were not recovered and they are commemorated on the Rabaul Memorial
