Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of William and Thodosia FERNANCE of Bent and Cambridge Streets, South Grafton.  Born and educated at Ulmarra, he enlisted at South Grafton on 16th May 1916, and sailed for England on 21st October 1916.  The first time he elisted he was rejected on account of being under age, and has been kept at Group Headquarters, as he was then too young to be sent to the firing line.
