James was the fourth of five children of Johannes (Ernest) Frederick Linde (born 1858 in Germany) and his second wife Elizabeth Rebecca Butler (born 1870 in Maryborough, QLD). Ernest was a Landmann (Farm Labourer) when he immigrated to Brisbane, QLD in 1874 on board the Herschel. Ernest (a Miner) married Elizabeth in 1889 in Maryborough, QLD. Ernest and Elizabeth lived in Rockhampton, at Mount Usher in Crocodile and at Mount Morgan. Ernest, a Miner, was killed in a blasting accident in 1918.
James, a Labourer, married Lilian Alice Watts (born 1903 in Gloucestershire, England) in 1936 in Innisfail, QLD. Elizabeth arrived in Brisbane, QLD in 1910 on board the Norseman. James and Lilian settled at Innisfail in QLD and James was working as a Labourer in Mount Morgan when he enlisted in the Army in June 1941. He was a Corporal (Service No:Q90751) with 42 Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in October 1945.
James (a Labourer) and Lilian lived in Mount Morgan and Rockhampton, where Lilian died in 1957. Ernest retired and moved to Ingham, QLD and then to Mount Morgan, where he died in 1985.
