Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Melvin was the third of five children of Arthur Little (born 1886 at Kangaroo Valley, NSW) and Sylvia Mabel Sawtell (born 1889 in Bowral, NSW). George (a Railway Worker) married Sylvia in 1914 at Temora in NSW. By 1919 the family had moved to Kingaroy in QLD and then settled at Two Mile near Gympie where Arthur was a Farmer until 1935. The family moved in to Gympie and Arthur worked as a Labourer.

Melvin was working as a Labourer in Gympie when he enlisted in the AMF in January 1942 - he served as a Driver (Service No:Q105422) with 111 Australian General Transport Coy until enlisting in the Army in March 1943. Melvin served as a Private with 111 Transport Platoon and 2/21 Transport Platoon - in New Guinea (1943/1944) and NEI (1945/1946). He was attached to 2/21 Transport Platoon when he was Discharged on 11 April 1946.

Melvin returned to Gympie where he worked as a Labourer and Timber Worker until 1950 when he relocated to Brisbane. In 1952 he married Dorothy Elsie Halsted (born 1921 in Brisbane, QLD). Dorothy was a Launderess. Melvin and Dorothy settled in Brisbane, where Melvin worked as a Technician. Dorothy died in 1988 and Melvin in 1991.
