Staff Sergeant Robert Henderson McCorquodale (Service No:QX20750) enlisted in February 1941 and was a Staff Sergeant attached to 2/25 Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged in December 1945. Brother John (Service No:Q145416) also served in WWII.
Born in Scotland, Robert Jnr was the eldest of two children of Robert Henderson McCorquodale (b1893 in Greenock, Scotland) and Isabella Currie Baxter (b1895 in Greenock, Scotland). Robert Snr (a Marine Engineer) and Isabella married in 1920 in Greenock, Scotland. Robert Snr had served as an Apprentice Engineer and was in the Naval Reserve. In 1926 Robert Snr and Isabella emigrated with their two sons, arriving in Brisbane QLD on board the Vedic. The family settled in Oxley, Brisbane QLD where Robert Snr worked as a Fitter until his death in 1932.
Robert was a Compositor living in Sherwood, Brisbane QLD with his mother and brother when he enlisted. In 1944 he married Heather Mavis Huet (b1920 in Brisbane, QLD) - Heather was a Hairdresser in Sherwood. Following his Discharge in December 1945, Robert and Heather settled in Sherwood to raise their family. Robert later lived with his wife and children in Darra where he worked as a Compositor and then a Probation Officer. Robert died in 2001 and Heather in 2005.
