Prior to the war William McGregor stated he had been a member of the Gisborne Rifles a detachment of the Victorian Mounted Rifles formed in 1903.
William, Enlisted as Single man on 20th August 1914 and married 2 months later on 18th October 1914, prior to his deployment, to Wife Mrs E McGregor c/- Post Office Gisborne Victoria. On Notfication of his death a Marriage certificate was produced on 30th June 1915.
Subsequently, his Brother 15886 Private Harold McGregor 46th Infantry Battalion KIA France 18th September 1918 IVO Bellingelise (sic).
Mrs Margaret McGregor ( Mother) donated the funds for the construction of a drinking fountain in Gisborne to the memory of her two sons KIA.
