Son of Henry Charles Kempson MAXWELL, Boorooma, McKinlay, Qld.
Charles joined the Winton militia unit in 1938. After war was declared in 1939, he became a member of the 26th Australian Infantry Battalion which was involved in the defence of North Queensland. As part of the AIF the unit saw service in Dutch New Guinea, Bougainville and Rabaul.
Kempson was discharged in 1946 and returned to his property Luckham Station in the Winton District. He later married Army Nurse Patricia Walker, and they both took an active role in the Winton community until their retirement in 1978.
