LANCE-SERGEANT THRELFALL.
News was received last night of the death in action of Lance-sergeant Reginald Hope Threlfall, the youngest son of Mr. George Threlfall, formerly of London, and of Mrs, Threlfall, of Turramurra. He was a student at the Hawkesbury Agricultural College, and a fortnight after the outbreak of the war with 50 other college students formed the First Light Horse Field Ambulance Brigade under Major Helsham, the doctor of the Hawkesbury College. Lance-sergeant Threlfall was educated in England, and had resided also in South America, West Indies, Canada, on the Continent, and in Australia. His
mother before her marriage was Miss Paul, of Sydney, and he was a nephew of Professor Threlfall, formerly of Sydney University, and now of Birmingham. His only brother, Mr, Martyn Threlfall, is a member of the literary staff of the "Sydney Morning Herald." Since his arrival in Egypt he had been engaged in attending to the wounded on hospital ships, and his last letters were dated Alexandria, July 31. He was killed in action on August 8, and had therefore been at the front for only one or two days. Lance-sergeant Threlfall was 19 years of age.
