"...Private QX7976 Hector Alexander McIntyre, 2/26 Battalion, of Cairns, Qld. Hector McIntyre was a clerk prior to enlisting in July 1940. He arrived in Singapore with his unit on 15 August 1941 and following the surrender to the Japanese Forces on 15 February 1942, he was interned at Changi as a prisoner of war. He was released on 5 September 1945 and returned home on 7 October 1945. Pte McIntyre's brother, 414154 Flying Officer Norman Gregor McIntyre, No. 97 Squadron, was killed during operations over Berlin on 16 December 1943." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)
