Frederick was the sixth of nine children of Walter Nunn (born 1866 in Ipswich, QLD) and Elizabeth Ann Thompson (born 1864 in Ipswich, QLD). Walter - a Coal Miner - married Elizabeth in 1887 in Ipswich, QLD, and worked as a Coal Miner until his death in 1940.

Fred was a Coal Miner at Dinmore, Ipswich, QLD when he enlisted in the AIF in 1918. He served as a Private (Service No:57895) with 5th Reinforcement, 15th and 14th Infantry Battalions in France. Fred was married in May 1919 in Lanarkshire, Scotland to Euphemia Reid Wallace Brown (born 1896 in Lanarkshire, Scotland). He returned to Australia in November 1919 and was Discharged in January 1920.

Fred and Euphemia settled at Dinmore, Ipswich in QLD where Fred worked as a Coal Miner until his death in 1931. Euphemia remarried in 1938 and died in 1986.
