Signaller Colin Harold James McKillop (Service No:Q156332) served in the ACMF with 1 Lines of Communications Signals from 13 April 1942 to 16 May 1945. Younger brother (Stan) served in the AIF in WWII.

Hal was born in Herberton QLD in 1910, second of five children of Colin Miachael Stephen McKillop (b1876 in Clermont, QLD) and Letitia Jane Apps (b1888 in Orange, New South Wales). Colin worked in Rockhampton as a Labourer before becoming a Tin Miner at the Wild and Dry River Mines via Herberton. In 1909 he and Letitia married in Cairns, and settled in Henrberton where they raised their family and Colin was a Miner. In the 1930s they moved to Cairns, where Colin worked for the City Counicl as a Builder's Labourer.

Hal joined the Post Master Generals Department in Cairns as a Telegraph Mesenger in 1924, remaining with the PMGs Department until retirement. In 1943 Hal married Myrtle (Mickey) Elizabeth Beryl Baldwin (nee Cherry; b1911 in Warwick, QLD) - Mickey was a Widow with a young son in Cairns. Hal and Mickey settled in Cairns, where they raised their family and Hal worked as a Telegraphist with the Postmaster Generals Department until retirement - when he was awarded the Imperial Service Medal for more than twenty five years meritorious service as a civil servant (Australian Government Honour Records; 1970). Hal died in 1986 and Mickey in 1990.
