Norman Anthony McMahon
Private Norman McMahon (Q45406) enlisted in the Australian Army militia (CMF) on 20 August 1940. He was called up for full-time duty on 29 September 1941 joining the Australian Army Service Corp at Enoggera.
He arrived in Townsville on 25 March 1942 as part of 5 A. D. Sup. Col. On 9 July 1942 he joined the 7 Brigade Coy. AASC and embarked on 27 July 1942 on the S. S. Bontekoe for Papua. Attached to the 25 Aust Coy ASC he saw action in the battle for Milne Bay, in which, on 31 August 1942, he was wounded in the side by a mortar shell fragment.
He returned to duty on 29 March 1943 after joining the AIF. (QX50914) He was transferred to ASC Details on 6 July 1943, and to the 2nd Australian Air Maintenance Company on 17 July 1943. He returned to Townsville from Buna on the Katoomba for leave on 7 April 1944. He rejoined his unit on 14 June 1944. He left Sydney on the Charon on 24 May 1945 arriving in Torakina, Bouganville on the 4th June. He joined the 121 Australian Supply Depot Platoon on 10th December but was transferred to the 8th Infantry Batallion on 26 December. On 9 February 1946 he left Torakina on the Ormiston arriving in Sydney on the 15 February 1946.
He was discharged on 4 April 1946.
