Lance-Corporal Leslie Arthur Best was already serving part-time for a period of over a year in the 41st Infantry Battalion (Katoomba) prior to enlisting for service in the Australian Imperial Force. L/Cpl. Leslie A. Best also listed service as a Senior Cadet.

The brother 7199 L/Cpl. Oswald Henry Best (/explore/people/121364) of Pte. Leslie A. Best returned to Australia and was discharged from his period of enlistment with the AIF on the 6 October 1919.

On 17 September 1918, L/Sgt. Leslie A. Best was recommended for New Year's Honours for officers and other ranks of the 54th Battalion for Mention in Despatches (MiD).
