Bill was the eldest child of Walter William Leslie Moon (born 1879 in Goulburn, NSW) and Emma Bennett (born 1875 in Staffordshire, England). Walter (a Saddler) and Emma married in 1904 at St Leonard's, NSW, and were in New Zealand in 1905 when Bill was born. By 1913 the family was back in Australia and living at Kullarney on the Darling Downs, QLD where Walter was a Saddler.
In 1927 Bill was a Cleaner at Queanbeyan in NSW when he married Violet May Alldridge (born 1906 on Waroo Station, Pikedale near Stanthorpe, QLD). Bill and Violet lived in Queanbeyan and Bill was working as a Labourer in 1932 when the family moved to Killarney on the Darling Downs, QLD and then in 1934 to Stanthorpe, where Bill worked as a Miner and a Labourer.
Bill enlisted in the Army in September 1941, and was a Private (Service Nos:QX39672/Q22504) attached to 117 Australian General Hospital when he was Discharged in January 1944. Bill and Violet were living in South Brisbane, and by 1949 they had separated and Violet remarried in 1959.
Bill moved back to Stanthorpe and worked as an Orchardist. He died in 1971 and Violet died in a car crash in 1973.
