Private Ernest Cecil Percy (Service No:7046) enlisted in the AIF on 20 June 1916 (on his second attempt and having served four years in the Militia), and was attached to 11th Infantry Battalion on 23 December 1916 when he embarked with his Unit from Fremantle for Devonport on board HMAT A35 Berrima. Private Percy served on the Western Front, and was hospitalised in England suffering Trench Fever. On 12 August 1918 Private Percy embarked from England for Fremantle on board the Kennilworth Castle, and was attached to 11th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 31 May 1918.
Ernest was born at Broken Hill, New South Wales in 1894 (BMD NSW:8349/1894), only child of Henry Ernest Percy (b1867 at Wallaroo Mines on the Copper Coast in South Australia) and Mary Jane Hollow (nee George; b1858 in Penzance, Cornwall). Henry and Mary moved to the Western Australian Goldfields in 1896, settling in the Kalgoorlie region - Yilgarn, Boulder, Golden Gate - where Henry was an Engine Driver.
Ernest was a Miner in Boulder in 1916 when he enlisted in the AIF. Following his Discharge, he returned to Boulder, where he was a Miner in 1920 when he married Doris Edith May Furzer (b1903 in Perth, Western Australia). Ernest and Doris settled in Perth, where they raised their family and Ernest was a Labourer and War Pensioner. Ernest died in 1933 and Doris in 1983.
