Jack was the youngest of five children of John (James) Edward Oliver (b1868 in Lincolnshire, England) and Louisa Smith (b1887 in Brisbane, QLD). James was an Agricultural Labourer when he arrived in Brisbane QLD in 1888 on board the Duke of Argyll. He worked as a Labourer in Rockhampton and he and Louisa married 1908 in Brisbane, QLD. John and Louisa settled in Brisbane where John worked as an Engine Driver.
Jack worked in Brisbane as a Labourer and in February 1941 he enlisted in the ACMF (Sergeant: Service No:Q75735). Jack served in Darwin (3 June 1944 - 17 November 1944) and was attached to 101 Tank Attack Regiment RAR when he was Discharged in December 1946.
In 1943 Jack married Dora Henrietta Smith (b1912 in Nanango, QLD) - Dora was Matron at the Blair Athol Hospital. Jack and Dora lived in Wynnum before settling in Bulimba and Jack worked as a Storeman. He died in 1983 and Dora in 2006.
