Leo's parents were Anselm Oxenham and Ellen O'Keefe. Leo's Father was stationed at the Post and Telegraph Service for North Pine and Redcliffe. His occupation when he enlisted in Toowoomba on 16 September 1914 was a labourer. He listed his wife, Julia Annie Fogerty, as his next of kin. Private Oxenham and his unit, 15th Infantry, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board Transport A40 Ceramic on 22 December 1914. He returned to Australia per Kyarra 10 June 1915. He was discharged 25 November 1915 for medical reasons.
