Gomer James was most severely wounded at Mouquet Farm on the 29 August 1916, compound fractures to both legs and died of wounds the next day in the 13th Australian Field Ambulance. His brother 2900 Pte. Waldo Albert James 48th Battalion AIF had been killed in action at Pozieres 3 weeks on 6 August 1916. The two brothers both worked at the Boulder City Brewery before enlisting.
