Gordon French Phister was the youngest of 8 children of Robert Morrisn Phister and Janet King of Ipswich and the Darling Downs in QLD.

Brother Samuel served with the RAAF in WWII, brother Robert Morrison was Killed in Action in Belgium during WWI, brother George served with 14th Coy 4th Australian Machine Gun Battalion in WWI and with the ACMF in WWII, brother Cyril (AKA Robinson) served with 2/9th Battalion (1939 - 1940), brother Clarence William served with the RAAF in WWII, and brother Percy served with 1 Garrison Battalion in WWII

Gordon served with 2/25 Australian Infantry Battalion as a Staff Sergeant (Service No:QX13610) in WWII. He was working as a Warden at a Boys' Hostel in Chrleville, QLD prior to his Enlistment in the Australian Army in 1940.

Gordon married Violet (Vi) May Stradling in 1947 in Brisbane, QLD - Vi had been a Private in the ACMF in WWII. Gordon and Vi setteld in Toowoomba, QLD where Gordon worked as a Supply Officer until his death in 1988
