Len was the youngest of three children of James Robins (born 1879 in Leicestershire, England) and Jane Bott (born 1879 in Warwickshire, England). James - a Boot and Shoe Clicker - married Jane in 1899 in Leicester, Leicestershire, where they raised their family.

Len started work as a Grocer's Assistant in Leicestershire in 1922, and in December 1923 he immigrated to Brisbane, QLD on board the Largs Bay. Len worked as a Banana Grower at Black Mountain in Cooroy, QLD and in June 1940 he enlisted in the Australian Army. Len was a Corporal (Service No:QX6970) with 2 Anti Tank Regiment when he was Discharged in August 1945.

Len was back in Cooroy, QLD and working as a Labourer in September 1945 when he married Widow Isabel Lillian Paxton (nee Hayter, born 1917 in Gympie, QLD). Len and Isabel settled in Cooroy, QLD where Len worked as a Labourer. He died in 1973 and Isabel in 2001.
