William was born in Townsville on 17 Mar 1893, son of John Henry Hone and Emma Pledger. He enlisted in Townsville on 27 Sep 1915, aged 22.
Driver Hone embarked from Sydney on 11 May 1916 per HMAT A8 “Argyllshire”.
He served on the Western Front with the 12th Field Artillery Brigade.
He returned to Australia on 1 Jul 1919. was discharged on 30 Jul 1919.
He was a compositor. He married Ruby Caroline Sandbek on 5 May 1921.
He died on 21 Oct 1975.
