Edward was the eldest of four children of Samuel Ruddell (born 1856 in Northern Ireland) and first wife Charlotte Dale (born 1868 in Northern Ireland). Samuel - a Labourer - arrived in Brisbane, QLD in August 1885 on board the New Guinea, and Charlotte arrived in Brisbane, QLD August 1887 on board the Almora. They married at St Thomas' in Toowong, Brisbane, QLD in March 1889 and settled in Brisbane, QLD where Samuel worked as a Labourer.
Edward was working as a Labourer in Dalby, QLD when he married Alice Maria Rossow (born 1889 in Ipswich, QLD) in 1913. They settled in Brisbane, QLD where Edward workd as a Linesman before moving to Ipswich and then Warwick QLD where Edward was Line Foreman.
In 1942 Edward was in Brisbane, QLD when he enlisted in the ACMF. He was a Signalman (Service No:Q155287) attached to 11 Lines of Communication Signals when he was Discharged in March 1944.
Edward and Alice remained in Brisbane, QLD where Edward worked as a Public Servant. Alice died in January 1966 and Edward in June that year.
