He was 21 and the son of George Gilbert and Emily Pearce Edmonds of 8 Mount Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, England.

It is possible that his birth was registered as George Henry.

At the time of the 1911 census for England he was an Errand Boy-Oil and Colour warehouseman, not living at home but as a boarder.

He is commemorated in England on the  Ipswich War Memorial in Christchurch Park, Ipswich, Suffolk. It  was unveiled in 1924 to commemorate those of the town who died in the First World War. The simple design of the memorial and its construction out of white marble ensures it shines and provides a suitable memorial to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
