Joe was the son of Giuseppe and Domenica Oldrini and although he was born in NSW he gave their address as Milano via Napoleone, Italy. The parents were deceased when Base Records was attempting to issue Joe’s medals and the awards eventually went to his brother, Alfred Oldrini, who was also living in Perth, WA.
Alfred sent in a copy of the following letter with Joe’s Roll of Honour form.
“In the Field, 14 October 1917.
Mr.A Oldrini, Perth.
Dear Sir, it grieves me to have to let you know that your brother Joe was killed in action today. He met his death as only a brave man can; he was killed running back to help a wounded mate.
I know it is a poor thing to offer you, but it is all we can. Please accept the heartfelt sympathy of all his comrades of the 114th Battery. I remain yours sincerely 12266 Gunner Branson R.W.”
