D'Arcy York LIVINGSTONE was born in 1896 in Bega, N.S.W.

His parents were Hugh Campbell LIVINGSTONE & Jane Margaret Mary HAWE who married in Bega in 1892 - his father Hugh was also with the 49th Battalion (SN3287) and he left 2 months after his son - at the time of D'arcys death Hugh was located in Codford in England in a training camp - he later returned to Australia

Prior to enlisting on 1st August, 1916 D'arcy had previous service for 2 years in the CMF (7th Infantry) & then left with the 9th Infantry Battalion, 21st reinforcements from Brisbane & transferred to the 49th Battalion after landing in France on 23rd June, 1917

He was Killed in Action on 16th July, 1917 in Belgium when he was hit by a shell fragment - he was buried east of Lignecourt about 30 yards from the trenches at Ploegsteert with a little cross bearing his name & service number - later he was re-interred in Strand Military Cemetery in Belgium - he is also memorialized on the Australian War Memorial and the Palmwoods War Memorial in Queensland - he was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal
