Military Medal
'For gallantry and devotion to duty on the night of 24th/25th April 1918 in the counter-attack at VILLERS-BRETONNEUX when by his exemplary spirit and great courage he kept his section well together and contributed greatly to the success of his Company. The fine example he gave after the objective was gained and digging-in had to be completed without delay, and later when he dressed wounded under heavy artillery and machine gun fire was a splendid incentive to all the other men of the platoon.'
