John joined the 3rd Light Horse and fought in Egypt. He was admitted to the 14th Australian General Hospital on 25 November 1916 and was diagnosed with having bilharzias, a disease caused by the presence of tropical flatworm parasites in the pelvic region, often referred to as schistosomiasis. John returned to Australia on H.T. Euripides from Suez on 22 January 1917 and was discharged as medically unfit on 18 June. John David Size died on 2 October 1988.
