Prior to enlisting Roy had served for five years with the Irish Rifles as Bugler

Husband of Ada Mary O'Hara of Ormond Street, Paddington, NSW.

Commenced return to Australia on 23 September 1919 aboard HT Ascanius disembarking on 10 November 1919
